How Old is Your Website?

old manLike dog years, websites seem to age must faster than other things. A shirt you bought four years ago may still look ok (maybe), but the website you had designed just as long ago looks extremely dated. Here’s why:

Websites have gotten wider. Have you noticed how some website are very narrow on your computer screen? This is because up to a few years ago, websites were designed at a certain width, to accommodate monitor resolutions. As quality there has increased, websites are now made much wider. These narrow sites may have been built just four or five years, ago, but they look much older.

Website are now mobile compatible. Your site that was designed four years ago was very sharp, but back then no one cared about mobile websites. Now, as more people are using their phones to go online, and as Google has removed non-mobile sites from search results, having a site that is mobile adaptive has become a common practice.

Websites have gotten cleaner. Every web design company has always said they design “clean” websites, but sites made today have really become simplified. The top headers aren’t cluttered, flash is a thing of the past, and banners with slides of different photos have given way to a static banners with one photo.

How old is your website? Is it dated? Is it mobile friendly? It may be time for a redesign.
