Achieving E-E-A-T: How to Write Articles That Rank

Everyone knows that SEO is an essential part of any marketing strategy. With as much as 93% of web traffic originating from search engines, increasing your visibility on Google is the #1 way to drive web traffic. But how do you get Google to feature your content?

Fortunately, Google’s content guidelines give us a straightforward answer: create valuable content that benefits users, and rankings will follow. That’s where E-E-A-T comes in.

Here’s what you should know about E-E-A-T content and how to create it.

What Is E-E-A-T Content?

E-E-A-T stands for Experience, Expertise, Authority, and Trustworthiness. It is a framework that Google uses to evaluate the quality of content on your website. Each component serves a distinct purpose in determining how useful and credible your content is to users.

Experience

While AI can scour the internet in seconds to answer questions, it lacks the ability to have or share personal experiences. Google values unique, individualized experiences that can’t be found elsewhere online – the kind that comes from firsthand accounts from real people.

For example, if you’re writing content about the best food delivery kit subscriptions, providing your personal experience about the meals you chose, your delivery experience, how you struggled with certain instructions, or providing unique images of the final result can help elevate your content.

Expertise

In addition to your personal experience, Google also wants to qualify the accuracy and impact of your content. They value information that comes from experts in their field, especially if you have degrees or other proof of your education or experience level.

Expertise becomes especially important in your money-or-your-life (YMYL) topics like healthcare and finances, where degrees, licenses, and other official qualifications are necessary for Google to endorse your content. However, it’s important on less serious topics, too.

For example, Google is more likely to showcase your meal kit review if you’re an accredited chef or culinary expert, which allows you to provide nuanced feedback and a qualified perspective that not everyone can offer.

Authority

Authority refers to how credible and influential your content as a whole is, particularly within your niche or industry. While expertise demonstrates your knowledge, authority is built over time through consistent, high-quality content that others recognize and reference – often leading to valuable backlinks.

Backlinks can come from other reputable sites linking to your content or sharing on social media, which becomes more likely when you provide unique and exciting content that aligns with E-E-A-T.

In our meal kit example, your authority could be bolstered by collaborations with well-known chefs or media that feature your reviews, leading Google to consider your site authoritative.

Trustworthiness

Trustworthiness is the foundation of E-E-A-T and ties all the other elements together. If your audience can’t trust your content, it doesn’t matter how much experience, expertise, or authority you have—Google won’t rank your site highly. Trust is earned by being transparent, accurate, and user-focused.

You can accomplish trustworthiness by:

  • Linking to reliable sources
  • Avoiding misleading headlines or inaccurate claims
  • Disclosing sponsorships or referral benefits
  • Ensuring your site is secured with HTTPS

For your meal kit review, you can demonstrate trustworthiness by disclosing if you’ve received a free kit for your review, providing unbiased feedback of the good and bad, and proving your claims with evidence like images or videos.
