As part of the Technology Committee of OHMA (On-Hold Messaging Association), I was asked to review the Nel-Tech Labs Messager USB Digital on-hold unit.
Product Review: __Nel-tech Messager USB__
By Amir Watynski, Watt Media, Inc.
USB Drive – on-hold audio is stored on a standard USB Drive (provided), which is then inserted into the player. Drive remains in player.
The Messager® USB is an audio playback device designed to provide continuous play for message on-hold, background music, or any other audio application where continuous play audio is required. Messages are stored on standard USB flash drives from 16MB up to 4GB. The Messager USB is capable of MP3 file playback from 8Kbps all the way up to full CD-quality audio playback of 128Kbps.
Message content is easily managed by plugging the USB flash drive into a PC or MAC computer’s USB port and “dragging and dropping” MP3 files to and from the drive. Customers can receive new and updated message on-hold or background music programs via e-mail or ftp and update the units themselves saving the expense of additional USB flash drives and the related mailing and tracking costs of these drives or other media.

Installation of the Messager USB is simple. Its small size and weight make it easy to fit on a phone board, and the unit can be mounted or lay flat. Four Mounting screws and four rubber pegs are provided for the two options.
Having used the Messager USB since it first appeared on the market, I have found it extremely easy to use. I have always believed that downloading recordings should be extremely easy for clients to do, and used CD loadable units in the past for this reason. My initial concern was that some computer-illiterate clients may have a hard time copying the file onto the USB drive, but that concern was alleviated rather quickly, since the vast majority of people can do it on their own without any instruction, and the few that do need help can figure it out pretty quickly or get help from someone else in their office.
Sound quality is excellent, as good as any CD loadable drive we’ve used in the past.
The units have performed great, we have had absolutely zero issues or malfunctioning units.
Although we haven’t needed any support on these units, Nel-tech Labs always provides excellent support. Any time we have called with questions or problems, their tech support department is able to resolve the issue rather quickly and is always available by phone or e-mail.
